For the Fear of Love and Dolls - Part 2

Alright so let's recap from Part 1. We have a seminar that is talking about the Fear of Love and Dolls. The speaker gave a comprehensive history about dolls, a psychological viewpoint of why we could fear dolls so much, especially when Hollywood has taken this by storm and making it more of a mainstream fear with Chucky and Annabelle. Remember she also talked about looking at intuition for those who want a haunted doll, making sure you are good with the energy, what to do if it is a really intense haunted doll and what to do if you want to get rid of a doll especially if it is haunted. (If you are starting here, go back and read Part 1 or none of this will make any sense).

To recap from our truth of matter section, we talked about how there is no story in the Bible or verse that supports the claim a demon can attach itself to an inanimate object. They are many stories that talk about people being possessed and animals but nothing to do with an inanimate object. Also remember that there is a belief called Animism, which is the belief that there is a soul in rocks, plants, mountains, rivers, animals, idols of any kind and even the stars.1 That each object is to be worshiped, feared or in some way attended to like an idol. Remember the speaker also insisted that you need to talk to the dolls, ask them for permission to be moved, if they like an area or not, and even saying goodbye to the dolls like they are a family member or an actual person. Which even though if you are not physically bowing down to the doll and singing songs of worship to it, that you are actually insisted in what it has to say and it could lead to the doll ending up controlling your own life.

So we see animism happening which is making the doll an idol but we also see things like Robert the Doll, cursed necklaces, talismans, etc. which leads to the question of really what could this be? Psalm 135:15-18 states, “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them; so do all who trust in them.” The Bible states that objects are made by human hands and they have no eyes to see nor ears to hear, they are just objects. But then why do we see cursed/haunted things? There’s a passage that explains what is going on. Genesis 3:1-5 states, “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden, but God said, ‘You shall not eat of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.’” But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”” Now I bet you are wondering why would this passage from Genesis be about cursed items, when there is nothing within this passage that deals with this situation, but it actually does. There is a lot to just these five verses but we are going to focus on one part which is the doubt the serpent was putting into the woman. In Genesis 3:1, the serpent states “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” Now if we look back at Genesis 2:16-17, these verses clearly state what God said, “And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”” So yes, God did state that but because the serpent was so crafty it put a seed of doubt into the woman’s head making her question if this was actually what God really said. Then adding into this doubt that God withheld information from her, instead of her dying, the serpent stated that she would not die, but her eyes would be opened and she would be like God.

So, as I said before, there is no passage in scripture that talks about an object that demons can attach themselves to. We also know that Satan uses doubt and distraction, like he did with the woman to get our focus off of God and to doubt him. So, then instead of using a tree and fruit, he’s using objects like necklaces, dolls etc. to get our focus off of God, to doubt the scriptures and to believe that God is withholding information when he isn’t at all.  2 Corinthians 4:4 states, “In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” It’s more susceptible to believe in the things that are filmed or the stories that we do see when it comes to the paranormal but it leads us down a road that ends up questioning God, doubting God and eventually blinding our eyes and unbelievers’ eyes. It’s a distraction to doubt God, and eventually lead us astray and away from him.

The speaker also talked about intuition. A lot of people trust their feelings on different situations and in this case, the speaker encouraged to trust in one’s intuition, knowing if a doll could be haunted or not. Jeremiah 17:9 states, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?”. Matthew 15:19 states, “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.”  And Proverbs 28:26 states, “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” We cannot trust our feelings nor on our own intuition like the speaker was saying because then we can be deceived.

So, then what do we trust if we cannot trust our feelings? Proverbs 3:5–6 states, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." It is God who we can put our trust in not our feelings, not in our own understanding because our feelings can be swayed. 1 John 4:1-3 states, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.  By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.” We have to test everything and make sure it stands by the word of God. The reason for that is what 2 Corinthians 2:11 states, “So that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant of his designs.

I will leave you with 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” Don’t be deceived, test everything and put your trust in the name of the one that deserves your trust which is the Lord your God.
